Licensing a Technology

If you are part of an established company or an entrepreneur planning to launch a technology-based startup, please take note of the following steps. Involved in licensing intellectual property (IP) from UQU:

1. Explore

We recommend starting by exploring our curated selection of inventions (Available technologies) or reviewing UQU's extensive portfolio of patents.

2. Initial Discussions

If you are interested in our available technologies, contact us to share non-confidential information about the technology's potential.

3. Confidentiality Agreement

After selecting a UQU invention, we suggest that your company sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to enable our inventor to share confidential technical details of the invention and allow you to submit your company's plans. You can find our NDA template here.

4. Negotiation of License Terms

Your company can enter into an 'Option to Negotiate a License' agreement with UQU, ensuring that UQU will not offer the IP license to any third party during this period. This agreement typically provides your company with 6-12 months to perform technical and commercial evaluations of the invention. To proceed with the Option agreement, our office will require a plan outlining your company's activities for the agreed period. The financial terms include a reasonable one-time fee. You can find our Option template here. If your company requires support from UQU inventors for technical validation, we can discuss this further.

5. Business Plan

If your company is satisfied with the market potential of the invention and is ready to move forward with its commercialization, our TTO will require a Business Plan. This plan should be a detailed written document demonstrating your company's commitment and capacity to develop and commercialize the technology. We recommend reviewing our guide before preparing the business plan.
